Series 1 Wellness Tips: Tip #5 Be a Goal Getter

Welcome Back fellow Wellness lovers! It is day 5, Tip #5 of Series 1 Wellness Tips and we are pumped about today’s topic! Before we get into it, let’s quickly recap what we’ve covered so far. We’ve touched on various topics including how to recognize our needs and protect our energy, how to build on our strengths, the importance of movement, and recognizing when it’s time to take things a little slower and regularly practicing self-care routines. We are all working towards honoring our bodies, our minds, and our overall wellness. We are definitely off to a great start!

Today’s tip is all about goal setting and why it’s important to set them. We’ll also give tidbits on how to build on them and how to keep track. Let’s go!

Now, why is goal setting important? Glad you asked!😁Goal setting is important because it sets ourselves with the intention to drive our actions towards a desired result. Settings goals and crushing them truly do give us a sense of accomplishment. Nothing like that feeling of crossing the finish line, looking back and seeing all that we’ve accomplished.

Setting goals can be for both the short-term and the long-term. No matter which type of goal you’d like to set, these tips will apply and make sure that you can stay on track and succeed.

  • Define what the goal is

Have a clear picture of what you want to accomplish and start brainstorming what it will take to get there. Take steps daily that promote that goal.

  • Gauge the timeline

Is it a short-term goal or a long-term goal? We suggest that if it’s a long term goal, that you plan to break it down into segments, if possible, so that you're not overwhelmed. This of it like, goals within the goals. We don’t want to get discouraged on long term goals. Find ways to see your progress along the way and congratulate yourself for a job well done. Notice how we said gauge; remain flexible on your timeline and not be too hard on yourself if you don't meet preset timelines. You'll get there, don't worry.

  •  Set realistic goals

Make sure you are giving yourself a reasonable amount of time to accomplish set goals. Don’t rush the process but enjoy the process and learn as you go. The more you practice this and get to know how you operate within your style of goal setting, the more you’ll succeed.

  • Track progress

Alongside your defined timelines, make sure you’re tracking progress along the way. Oftentimes we might be so focused on the end game that we lose track of how far we’ve come and perhaps how close we are to reaching set goals. Remain mindful and present throughout.

  • Stay consistent

It’s a goal for a reason! It’s going to take effort and it’s going to take consistency. Even if the steps you take daily are small, it’s one more step than you had yesterday and that my friend means, you’re ahead of the game. Keep going!

Now, let’s all be on our way and make plans on being the goal getters we know ourselves to be.
